FACT SHEET

This qualification is designed for learners aged pre-16 and above who wish to develop skills and knowledge in craft.

Please note, this is not a GCSE but is a GCSE Level course which is why it is designed to span 2 years. This is widely regarded as level to a grade A*-C/4-9 at GCSE standard. We would recommend that you dedicate approximately 4 hours on the completion of each session, although you can of course dedicate more time than this.

Please also note, that whether this course is recognised as a GCSE equivalent by colleges and further education establishments, can vary according to location, college and even between courses at the same college. If reliant on this qualification for entry onto another course, it is recommended that you establish with the college whether or not this will aid admission, before committing to the course.

The awarding body for this qualification is NCFE, who have approved Technology Triumphs as a training provider for this qualification.

A course summary with more details on the course content is available.

Each term, a ‘Learning Pack’ will be sent via email to all participants. Within this will be an overview of the different sessions, with correlating ‘Work Booklets’ for the students to complete.

Links will be provided to YouTube videos that have been created by Technology Triumphs as tutorials to walk the student through the technical aspects of the tuition.

These videos have been created by and are demonstrated by a qualified and experienced D&T teacher, Pip Rothwell.

The parent or guardian of the student will act as the ‘tutor’ in all other aspects of session delivery – i.e, providing guidance and support when completing research tasks.

Students will need to complete practical activities under the supervision of an adult and then complete the corresponding workbooklet:

Photographic evidence of the completed practical work will need to be submitted within the workbooklet as well as occasional videologs. Guidance and support will be provided on this.

The course has been designed to cater for Home Educated families and therefore has been designed to allow flexibility in terms of delivery.

As a guidance we would suggest that approximately 2 hours per week be set aside to complete this qualification within the 2 year timeframe.

Deadlines

Deadlines will be set on a termly basis. At the end of each term, the work will need to be submitted to the tutor via the platform, Dropbox for assessment and feedback.

Assessment

This is a pass or fail course rather than a graded qualification. However, feedback during the termly  assessments will include a RAG tracker (Red, Amber, Green) to indicate how the student is progressing through the learning objectives. More detailed and personal written feedback will also be provided.

In order to ensure that students work is their own, a number of set tasks will require the students to complete a video submission showing their ability to conduct a practical task and explain the processes they have used.

Support

A Facebook page; Technology Triumphs Level 2 Creative Craft has been set up as a support group for participants on the course. You can request to join this group for more information on the course and access to the course curriculum and sample materials.

This will be a platform where anyone registered with the course can join and share ideas or ask for further guidance. It will also be a great place to celebrate the work and request feedback from peers about their products.

Technology Triumphs will run termly competitions within the page which are accessible only to those enrolled onto the course.

Payment

Payment can be made in 22 monthly instalments of £25 per month, with the first payment due by 1st September 2020.

When booking onto the course via the classforkids booking platform, you will be given the option of subscribing to the course – this will set up payments so that they are taken on the 1st of each month.

Technology Triumphs is fully appreciative of the fact that circumstances may change and in order to ensure that the qualifications are made available to as many young people as possible, offers a no obligation format to their courses.

During the first year of the course, if at any point, for any reason, you wish to withdraw your child from the course, you can do so without any financial obligation.

If you wish to withdraw your child from the course during the second year of completion, after the registration fee has been paid to the exam board, the only fee payable will be of £20 (cancellation fee to the exam board).

Technology Triumphs policies, including Complaints Procedures, are available upon request or accessible via Policies page on this website.
